Working Days Calculator
Count the working days between two dates, excluding weekends and UK bank holidays, ideal for deadlines and service levels.
How are working days counted?
Working days (or business days) are the days a typical UK workplace is open, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. This calculator counts each day in your chosen range and removes weekends and England and Wales bank holidays.
It is useful for anything measured in business days: delivery estimates, service level agreements, statutory deadlines and notice periods. You can choose whether to exclude weekends, bank holidays, or both.
Worked example
Between 1 December 2025 and 31 December 2025 there are 31 total days. Excluding weekends and the Christmas bank holidays leaves 21 working days.
The same range with only weekends excluded (keeping bank holidays as working days) gives 23 days.
Frequently asked questions
Which bank holidays does it use?
It uses England and Wales bank holidays. Scotland and Northern Ireland have some different dates, so adjust if you are counting for those nations.
Are the start and end dates included?
Yes. Both endpoints are included in the count if they are working days.
How do I keep the list of holidays up to date?
The bank holiday dates are stored in one place and can be updated each year, or connected to the official GOV.UK feed.
Can I count only weekends off?
Yes. Turn off the bank holiday option to count Monday to Friday regardless of public holidays.
Does it handle part weeks?
Yes. It counts each qualifying day individually, so partial weeks at either end are handled correctly.
