Notice Period Calculator

Enter the date you hand in your notice and your notice length to find your expected last working day.

How is a notice period counted?

Your notice period usually starts the day after you hand in your resignation, though exact rules depend on your contract. This calculator counts from the date you enter and works out the final day of your notice in days, weeks or months.

Notice measured in months is treated as calendar months, so one month from the 15th runs to the 14th of the next month. Weeks and days are counted as fixed periods.

Worked example

Handing in one month’s notice on 10 August 2026 gives an expected last working day of 9 September 2026.

A one-week notice period starting on the same date would end on 16 August 2026.

Please note: This is a general date guide, not legal or employment advice. Your contract and statutory rights determine your actual notice.

Frequently asked questions

When does my notice period start?

Often the day after you resign, but your contract is the final word. Some employers count from the resignation date itself.

Does it account for weekends and holidays?

Notice periods usually run continuously including weekends, so this calculator counts calendar time. Check your contract for any exceptions.

What is the statutory minimum notice?

Employees with at least one month’s service must generally give at least one week’s notice, but your contract may require more.

Can my employer make me leave earlier?

Sometimes, through pay in lieu of notice or garden leave, depending on your contract. This tool shows the standard end date only.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is a simple date guide. For disputes or specific rights, seek advice from ACAS or a qualified adviser.
