How does salary conversion work?
Converting between pay periods depends on how many hours and days you work. This calculator turns whatever figure you enter into a yearly total first, then divides it into monthly, weekly, daily and hourly amounts using your working pattern.
By default it assumes 37.5 hours over 5 days a week for 52 weeks a year, but you can change these to match your contract for an accurate hourly rate or annual equivalent.
Worked example
An annual salary of £30,000 over 37.5 hours a week works out at £2,500 a month, about £577 a week and roughly £15.38 an hour.
Working backwards, an hourly rate of £15 across the same hours equals an annual salary of about £29,250.
Frequently asked questions
Is this before or after tax?
These are gross conversions, before tax. To see take-home pay, use the salary and take-home pay calculator.
What hours should I use?
Use your contracted hours. Full-time is often 35 to 40 hours a week; part-time or shift patterns will differ.
How many weeks should I use?
Use 52 for a simple year. Some people use 52.14 to reflect the exact number of weeks, which makes a tiny difference.
Does it include holiday pay?
For salaried roles, holiday is usually already included in the annual figure. For hourly work, check whether holiday pay is on top.
Can I convert an hourly rate to a salary?
Yes. Choose hourly as the input and the calculator shows the equivalent annual, monthly and weekly pay.
